I'm new to this forum, so if my post is in the wrong area please move it with my apologies.

A UBBThreads webmaster and myself are currently planning on combining our communities.

I am running VBulletin 2.2.8

He is running UBBThreads 6.2

This is what we would like to do...

We cannot just convert the VBulletin forums over to UBBThreads as we have about 15,000 members in the VBulletin forum and about 20,000 members in the UBBThreads forum.

We are NOT interested in moving any of the VBulletin forums, threads or posts over at all.

We realize that some of the usersnames used in the VBulletin forum have already been taken by members of the UBBThreads forum. To fix this we would "prefix" all of the names moving over from VBulletin. (for example: username "robert" on the VBulletin forum would become "VB-robert" on the UBBThreads forum)

Here is exactly what mySQL fields we would like to convert from our VBulletin forum to the UBBThreads forum.

* Username:
* Location:
* Email address

The password are encrypted in VBulletin so we realize that we would not be able to move the password over to the UBBThreads forum. What we would like to do for password is create a random password for each user moved over and then that user could request his/her password via email via the "lost password" form in UBBThreads.

Thank you for any help that any of you can provide.

The funny thing is I was a UBB forum webmaster way back with Ted when the UBB was a free forum. Now I'm looking forward to coming back to the community.

I am looking forward to becoming a UBBThreads webmaster, and thanks for any help you can provide!

I can do an import of the vb users for you if you want, contact me if you are interested. I have a script ready for this, although it would need some minor tweakings to take care of the special circumstances.

I don't think you need to need to do anything about the passwords though, because I believe they are encrypted in the same way. Either way, a random password is rendered automatically when requesting a lost password. So it is more or less just a matter of moving over all the necessary data.
